The AGH University of Science and Technology together with a group of Polish partners has become one of the leading institutions participating in a big, long-term, European research project – Consortium Knowledge and Innovation Community. Its annual budget amounts to almost 120 mln. euros, but it is expected to exceed even 2 billion PLN in next eight years. The board of directors of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology organised a competition for great research projects. The consortium is of an international character and it consists of six thematic so called Collocation Centres (CC). Such prestigious European scientific institutions as the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Karslruhe Institute of Technology, the INP Grenoble & the Grenoble Ecole de Management or Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona were made coordinators of the centres. Polish CC Poland Plus won in the area of ‘Sustainable Energy’ and Cracow`s AGH has become its coordinator. The cluster consists of a few Polish colleges (Politechnika Śląska, Uniwersytet Śląski, Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Politechnika Wrocławska), the Central Mining Institute, the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal, and industrial plants Tauron, ZAK Kędzierzyn, Lotos and PGNiG.
– This exceptionally prestigious project is a big chance for a considerable qualitative change for all partners participating in it. It will allow for the introduction of absolutely new standards in the development of scientific research, the introduction of new technologies and the search of environment friendly energy sources.’ estimate the authorities of the AGH. Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza wraz z grupą polskich partnerów stała się jedną z wiodących instytucji uczestniczących w wielkim, długoterminowym europejskim projekcie badawczym – Konsorcjum Knowledge and Innovation Community. Jego roczny budżet to ok. 120 mln euro, ale w ciągu najbliższych ośmiu lat wydatki mogą przekroczyć nawet 2 mld złotych. Konkurs na wielkie projekty badawcze prowadził zarząd Europejskiego Instytutu Technologicznego. Konsorcjum ma charakter międzynarodowy i składa się z sześciu tematycznych tzw. Węzłów (Colocation Centre – CC). Rolę ich koordynatorów zdobyły prestiżowe europejskie instytucje naukowe takie jak Royal Institute of Technology ze Sztoholmu, TU Eindhoven, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Grenoble INP & Grenoble Ecole de Management czy Univeristat Politecnica de Catalunya w Barcelonie. W obszarze “Sustainable Energy” zwyciężył polski węzeł CC PolandPlus. Rolę jego koordynatora pełni krakowska Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza, z którą współdziała kilka wyższych uczelni (Politechnika Śląska, Uniwersytet Śląski, Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Politechnika Wrocławska), Główny Instytut Górnictwa, Instytut Chemicznej Przeróbki Węgla oraz firmy przemysłowe Tauron, ZAK Kędzierzyn, Lotos i PGNiG.
– Ten niezwykle prestiżowy projekt jest wielką szansą na jakościowy skok dla wszystkich partnerów uczestniczących w przedsięwzięciu. Pozwoli wprowadzić zupełnie nowe standardy w rozwoju badań naukowych, wdrażaniu nowych technologii i poszukiwaniu ekologicznych źródeł energii – oceniają władze AGH. Polski węzeł ma zajmować się przede wszystkim nowoczesnymi metodami wykorzystania węgla kamiennego i brunatnego.

Die Akademie für Bergbau- und Hüttenwesen wurde zusammen mit einer Gruppe polnischer Partner zu einer der führenden Einrichtungen, die an dem großangelegten, langfristigen europäischen Forschungsprojekt – Konsortium Knowledge and Innovation Community – teilnehmen. Sein jährlicher Haushalt beläuft sich auf 120 Mio. Euro, jedoch könnten die Ausgaben innerhalb der nächsten acht Jahre sogar 2 Milliarden Złoty überschreiten. Der Wettbewerb für große Forschungsprojekte wird durch die Verwaltung des Europäischen Technologischen Institutes geleitet.
